Graceful reintroduction of mankind into his environment

RARE Winter Bird!

A Broad-tailed Hummingbird continues to stay with us, despite all of the restof its kind migrating to Mexico almost two months ago

We have been photo-documenting the presence since mid-October. As recently as November 15, we still had two individuals here. Life has gotten in the way of looking for the birds being a priority, but, today should afford a bit of time for gazing.

Nights have been cold! Below freezing temperatures have put us into ‘Operation No Freeze’ mode. Every night there is risk of freeze, we bring the feeders onto the house an hour after dark. They are returned to their respective spots an hour before daylight and then monitored to make sure no freezing occurs.

We will have to closely monitor the weather until spring to make sure the little ones always have fuel when coming out of torpor on frozen mornings.

Go outside, everybody!
